Indian Rummy is a matching-card game in which players draw and discard cards while arranging a hand into valid sequences and sets. A common format deals 13 cards to each player. The remaining cards form a closed pile, and one face-up card starts the discard pile.
On a normal turn, a player draws one card and discards one card. The hand is complete only when every card belongs to a permitted group and the declaration requirements are satisfied. Exact scoring, joker selection and table conditions can vary between Points, Pool and Deals Rummy.

For example, 4♥-5♥-6♥ is a pure sequence. Consecutive ranks from different suits do not form a valid sequence.

Begin with 13 cards. On each turn, take one card from the closed pile or the visible discard pile, then discard one card so the hand returns to 13. The practical objective is to improve groups without breaking the pure sequence that a valid declaration normally requires.
5♥-6♥-7♥ is a pure sequence because the ranks are consecutive, the suit is the same and no Joker substitutes for a missing card. 9♣-Printed Joker-J♣ can be an impure sequence when the Joker represents 10♣. 8♣-8♦-8♠ can form a set because the rank matches and the suits differ.
Three common errors are mixing suits inside a sequence, treating a Joker-assisted run as pure, and leaving one card outside the final grouping. Ace treatment can also vary: check whether the current table permits A-2-3, Q-K-A or both before declaring.

In a common points system, number cards keep their printed value, while aces and face cards are often counted as 10 points. A valid declaration protects cards already arranged in accepted groups; an invalid declaration or missing pure sequence may be handled differently by a specific table.

Consider four proposed groups: 4♥-5♥-6♥, 9♣-10♣-Joker, K♠-K♥-K♦ and 2♦-3♦-4♦-5♦. The first and fourth groups are natural same-suit runs, the club group can be an impure sequence when the Joker represents J♣, and the kings can form a set. All 13 cards are used, and the hand contains more than one sequence including a pure sequence.
The method matters more than memorising the example. Count the cards, identify the pure sequence, verify the second sequence, inspect sets for repeated suits and name the card represented by every Joker. Then compare the result with the current table's ace, Joker and declaration rules.
